Walking, Talking, and the Power of Putting One Foot in Front of the Other

At Gait and Rehab, we know health is about more than just fixing foot pain. It’s about helping people live fuller, healthier, and happier lives. That’s why I, Usamah,  Clinical Director here at Gait and Rehab, am proud to be part of Men’s Walking and Talking Solihull - a community where people come together to walk, share, and support one another.

Why Walking and Talking Matters

Mental health is something we don’t talk about enough, for men and women alike. Walking with others offers something simple but powerful: a safe space to connect, share, and enjoy movement.

When you’re walking side by side, conversation feels easier. There’s no pressure, no spotlight – just the rhythm of your steps, the fresh air, and the company of others who get it.

The Link Between Feet, Walking, and Mental Health

As a podiatrist, I see first-hand how foot health and mental health overlap:

  • Pain can hold you back. Sore feet can stop you walking, joining groups, or staying active. This isolation can worsen mood.

  • Movement lifts mood. Walking improves circulation, eases joint stiffness, and releases endorphins – leaving you feeling better in both body and mind.

  • Confidence is key. Healthy, supported feet let you keep moving, socialising, and enjoying life.

That’s why groups like Walking and Talking and Solihull Striders are so valuable. At Gait and Rehab, we’re passionate about helping people stay on their feet – through gait assessments, orthotics, or specialist treatments  so you can get out and enjoy walking safely and comfortably.

How Gait and Rehab Can Support You

We use tools like MSK assessmentsgait analysis, and footwear advice to keep you walking comfortably. But more importantly, we know that looking after your feet is about giving you the freedom to stay active, connected, and healthy – physically and mentally.

Being part of these walking groups reminds me why this matters. It’s not just about treating pain it’s about helping people enjoy life again, step by step.
