VERRUCA

NEEDLING TREATMENT IN KNOLWE, SOLIHULL

Verrucae needling is a minor surgical procedure for
the permanent removal of stubborn verrucae and
warts.

What is Verrucae Needling?

Verrucae needling is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic for the permanent removal of stubborn verrucae and warts.

It is generally performed when other treatments haven’t worked and in 75% of patients only one treatment is necessary.

Not all verrucae need to be treated - if yours is small and not causing any discomfort, you can ignore it and wait for it to eventually go.

But if yours appear to be spreading or are causing discomfort, needling can be a good option. By causing a superficial wound, the body's own immune system is stimulated into fighting the verruca virus.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT

History

Your practitioner will take a full medical, medication & lifestyle history at your initial appointment to insure you are suitable for verrucae needling. All your information is taken in a private room and stored on our secure database for your privacy & security.

Anaesthetic

Before the anaesthetic our podiatrist will assess the blood flow in your feet using a doppler. This is a painless procedure and when you and our podiatrist are both happy we administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area to be treated.

Treatment

Once the area is numb and you are happy to proceed our podiatrist will perform a technique known as Falknor's Needling using a fine needle in an aseptic environment. The procedure often takes less than 10 mins per verrucae / wart and you leave with aftercare advise and a follow-up appointment

What does a verruca needling appointment involve?

Before your appointment, we will have assessed your suitability for the procedure and discussed the pros and cons with you.

At the appointment, local anaesthetic will be administered, and once the area is numb, your podiatrist will use a very fine needle to repeatedly puncture the surface of the verruca.

This causes a wound and by pushing viral particles deeper into the dermis, your immune system is triggered into responding to the virus.

The wound will be dressed and you'll be given instructions on how to care for your foot while it heals.

We'll book in 2 follow up appointments so that we can monitor the healing of your foot.

How many treatments will I need?

In 75% of cases only one treatment is required.

However 1 in 4 patients may require additional treatments depending on the success of the initial procedure and/or the number of verruca's / warts to be treated.

Who can receive this treatment?

With a few exceptions, most adults are suitable for verrucae needling. The only exceptions are those who have a medical contraindication to the anaesthetic or have poor wound healing.

Children are not suitable for this treatment.

Can I drive after verruca needling?

As we use local anaesthetic to numb your foot, you will not be able to drive following surgery and you should make arrangements for someone to take you home following the procedure.

Once feeling has returned, you can drive, but we advise taking it easy for 24-48 hours, preferably with your foot elevated as much as possible.

Can I claim for my verruca needling from my private medical insurance?

Private medical insurers recognise our HCPC registration, but you should always check your policy to see if you are covered.

We don't deal with insurers directly, but are happy to issue you with a detailed invoice that most insurers will accept and from which you can claim back our fees.

What is the recovery time following verruca needling?

We advise you to take it easy for 24-48 hours following the procedure to allow healing to take place. You will need to keep the wound dressed (we'll provide you with instructions and all the dressings you'll need) until the wound has fully scabbed and is drying up.

All your check up appointments are included in the fee.
